I came across an interesting article on ProBlogger, it was actually a guest post by Lewis Howes, titled “Top 10 ways to drive traffic to your blog using LinkedIn”. Of course I’ve been a member of LinkedIn for quite a while now, but never really spent much time over there, would just stop in whenever I got new connection requests and poke around, probably like much of you.

Well coming across this interesting article, I decided to give it a shot and I followed each of the 10 ways as follows:

  1. Complete your profile: This didn’t take too long as most of my profile was complete, however there was some updating to do, including creating my company’s profile.
  2. Increase Your Connections: I did this by checking the suggestions and finding people I knew, also by checking my current connections for people I know. I figure this is something I should take a habit of doing whenever I do business with someone is to check if they are on LinkedIn and add them.
  3. Customize Your Website Links: I updated this, took 2 seconds, but can definitely see how it could be a good change.
  4. Answer Questions: This is something that will take a little bit longer to do, but just like participating in a forum or commenting on other websites and blogs, it can be well worth it in the end.
  5. Update Status: I didn’t update this as my Twitter stream is already linked to my LinkedIn status.
  6. Join Niche Groups: I joined my first group called The Blog Zone, will see how that goes and probably join more.
  7. Post Comments in Groups: I still have to be approved to the first group to be able to do this, but like number 4, I can see the rewards of it.
  8. Add RSS Feed to Groups: This is a great feature that I didn’t know existed and will definitely do this, for all my sites, in the correct groups of course.
  9. Create a Group: I’m not sure if I will set this up, and if so should I go with a group about a subject, a group of people or just about my website. Can be interesting, will have to look into it more though.
  10. Add the Blog Application to Your Profile: I believe this was one of the first things I did when I knew it existed a while back, but it is definitely one of the top things to do.

I have to say, I didn’t complete all 10 in my first shot, but I have spent nearly an hour playing with LinkedIn and it’s way more interesting and powerful than I thought.

It may not be Facebook, but Alexa ranks it at the 35th most visited website, 17th in the United States, so it’s definitely worth putting some time into it.

  1. I really enjoy what you post here, very fresh and smart. One issue though, I’m running Firefox on Ubuntu and some of your layout pieces are a little wonky. I realize it’s not a common setup, but it’s still something to watch out for. Just shooting you a heads up.
